In Monday's column, Naomi wrote about the recent Katy Perry music video for her single "Part of Me", which features Perry apparently joining up, toting an assault rifle, riding in a tank and so on. The video is part of a pattern, Naomi observed, of cooperation and collaboration between the entertainment industry and the US military. In which case, Naomi posed, don't artists like Perry have a duty to inform their public if these productions are, in effect, subsidised by the US military?
In a larger view, should we approve of our taxpayer dollars being spent in this way? Is there anything wrong with the Pentagon doing marketing and PR in popular culture this way?
Join Naomi to discuss these issues and more in a live webchat Q&A this Friday at 1-2pm EST (6-7pm UK time). Please post your questions and comments in the component below in that hour. After the live Q&A, the thread here will be open to comment.
