I honestly, truly hate being online. It’s a curse. Not to be an annoying “born in the wrong generation” weirdo, but literally any generation where the internet didn’t exist sounds pretty good to me. That said, it might actually be all worth it for the funny videos – 20 seconds or so a day where the world is at its best. – Liam Parsons
Liam’s picks
1. Tony gonna stand on an egg
Every now and again you’ll meet a fellow Tony-head at a party or something and there’s an instant rapport there. I’m generally a fan of fail videos but I don’t even know if you could count this video in that genre as it’s so sweet and benevolent. It says so much about male friendship to me. These two older gentlemen standing around in a kitchen, just trying to film one another standing on an egg. They’re such good friends!
2. Serge Gainsbourg tribute
Yes, this video is categorically funny. But depending on your mood when watching, it can be truly touching. Serge reflecting on his life and legacy while these kids wear fake stubble and pretend to chain-smoke in front of him is so absurd, but it clearly means so much to him.
I don’t speak French unfortunately, but apparently they changed the lyrics of his (really good) song I Came To Tell You That I’m Leaving to We Came To Tell You That We Love You, which, sure! Beautiful, stupid stuff.
3. Paul McCartney’s special message to his son
The big moment happens from 1:15 but the whole video is worth a look. Like most good videos it is rich in subtext and lore. A perfect shot/chaser is to immediately follow this video with the James McCartney 66-second interview conducted by NME at Glastonbury.
4. Man gets bitten by camel in car
Unlike the videos above, there’s no deeper emotion at play here. It does what it says on the box, you know? But as per usual, I have questions. Why is he waving bread at the camels in the first place? Why don’t they drive away? Why does he try to bite it back?
5. My dog’s been locked in Costa
This is a new addition to the archives for me, but I can feel a long and beautiful relationship coming on. I somewhat recently moved to the UK and this whole video is a perfect encapsulation of what I’ve found here.

1. Pepino joe
In a world of food influencers who make you feel kinda bad that you don’t own Le Creuset pots, Pepino Joe is really holding it down. You may not learn a lot by watching him cook, but his unfinished dishes seem to really annoy internet folk, which is kinda funny. Reminds me of Tony P for some reason?
2. James McCartney 66-second interview
For a while I thought perhaps Jamesy was trolling the trolls by answering most of these questions by simply saying “the Beatles”, but having watched a few more interviews, he seems to have had a really had a big 60s phase.
3. Jennifer Paige answers some questions
The perfect time capsule of the 90s. Skechers just opened, Crush was everywhere on the radio, what’s not to love?
4. Robby Krieger national anthem
The perfect trainwreck performance. Made funnier because I never really cared for the Doors anyway.
5. You better sit down
Couple too many Bud Lights? Good stuff.
