A man has been arrested after trying to gain access to Drake’s Toronto mansion, the day after a security guard at the property was seriously injured in a shooting.

“Officers were called after a person attempted to gain access to the property,” Toronto police said in a statement. “The person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act, and they were taken to receive medical attention.”

Police said the incident was unrelated to the shooting which took place early on Tuesday morning. Investigations continue into that incident, after reports that the assailant was seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

No motive has been ascribed to either incident, which have happened amid an especially high-profile month for Drake.

He has been involved in a vehement war of words with rival rapper Kendrick Lamar, with insults and criminal allegations levelled by each of them at the other via a series of diss tracks, which have gone on to become huge global hits on streaming services.

One of Lamar’s tracks, Not Like Us, is currently the most-streamed song in the world on Spotify. Its artwork features an aerial shot of Drake’s Toronto mansion.

Drake used his most recent diss track, The Heart Part 6, to refute some of the allegations made against him by Lamar, including child sex offences and that he is harbouring a secret child. “If I was fucking young girls, I promise I’d have been arrested / I’m way too famous for this shit you just suggested,” he rapped, and said that Lamar had been deliberately fed false information regarding the secret child to undermine his own diss tracks.
