As One Direction bring their Where We Are Tour to England this week, a video that appears to show members Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik smoking "illegal substances" has emerged.
In the footage, published by Mail Online, the pair are heard joking about a "joint" as they smoke what looks like a rolled-up cigarette in the back of a car in Peru. Tomlinson, 22, who is said to be filming the five-minute video, is heard saying, "So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days!" Meanwhile, Malik, 21, is filmed throughout.
At one point, the camera pans to a police motorcyclist driving alongside the vehicle, as Tomlinson laughs: "He's having a look. He's thinking, 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there.' And he's hit the nail on the head."
The film was reportedly shot on 27 April as the singers were travelling through Peru on their way to a concert at the Estádio Nacional in Lima. Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan are believed to have been travelling in different cars and are not seen in the video.
As well as talking about chicken, the pair also appear to discuss One Direction's last book, with Malik describing it as "so girly and not cool".
Towards the end of the video, Tomlinson asks, "Will this come back to me? Maybe? Maybe not."
A spokesman for One Direction has since told the Guardian that there is no further comment, adding, "This matter is in the hands of our lawyers."
One Direction's world tour began last month in Bogotá, Columbia. Following the end of their tour of South American concerts, Malik tweeted: "Touring South America was incredible!! Thankyou! to all of amazing! supportive! Wonderful! Fans!! big love gonna get some rest now :) x"
Tonight, 28 May, the band will perform their first date in England, playing at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.
This year, the five members of One Direction were named in the Sunday Times's rich list for UK musicians under 30. Reportedly worth an estimated £14m each – almost triple their value in 2013 – the band are the richest boy-band in British music history.
